How did you get started in your sport?
I started skiing when I was 18 months old because my whole family skied. My parents thought it was a nice family weekend activity that would help burn off some of the energy that my three siblings and I had. I watched two of my three older siblings go into the ski racing program at our home club, and I wanted to follow their footsteps and do the same. A few years later, I entered the racing program at Georgian Peaks in Collingwood, ON.
Goals for this upcoming year/season?
The upcoming season will be my first year on the FIS World Cup circuit. This is a big jump from the Nor-Am circuit which I raced this past season. My goals are to start the season strong and work my way into the top 15 throughout the season.
If you were not an athlete, what would you be doing?
I would probably be going to school and studying either Business or Biology.
Favourite band/artist?
I really like Country music. My favorite band is probably LOCASH.
What’s a typical day of training look like?
During the season, a typical day of training would be waking up around 6/630, eating breakfast and getting ready for skiing. This would include stretching and doing a warm up off the hill. We leave for the hill around 730 and train from around 8am-12pm. During this four hour block we would take about 8-12 runs on the hill. I would then head back to the hotel for some lunch, take a nap, and then do some recovery. Recovery is different every day, but we usually spin on a bike for 30 minutes, stretch and then do either a short and light weight workout or maybe some balance training.
What would people be surprised to learn about you?
I really like to go dirt biking with my brother, dad and sometimes sisters in the off-season. I find it really fun, challenging and kind of scary all at the same time. It reminds me of skiing because you always have to look ahead and pick a line of where you want to go.
Pre-competition rituals?
I listen to music before my races. I listen to calm music during warm-up and inspection and then switch to more upbeat and intense music before my run.
Favourite movie and tv series?
My favorite movie is The Lion King and favorite TV show is Nashville.
The result you’re most proud of?
2016/17 Overall Nor-Am Winner. I am most proud of this because it was a goal of mine at the beginning of the season. This also secured me a spot on the World Cup circuit for the 2017/18 season which I am really excited for!
Anyone you would like to thank?
I would like to thank all of my equipment sponsors for supporting me through my career. I would also like to thank my friends for always being supportive of me. Most of all I’d like the thank my family, they have put in a lot of time and effort to help me reach my goals and doing this without them would be so much harder and nowhere near as fun without them and all of their support.
